Broward County’s Regional 911 System serves 28 of Broward County's 31 municipalities through a coordinated emergency communications network designed to improve response times, enhance interoperability, and deliver consistent, measurable performance. Calls are routed to one of three Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) located in Coconut Creek, Pembroke Pines, and Sunrise, where trained telecommunicators process emergency calls and coordinate the appropriate response. The cities of Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, and Plantation operate independent emergency communications systems and do not participate in the regional network.
The foundation of today's regional system was established by Broward County voters through a 2002 Charter amendment that called for a countywide emergency communications infrastructure to support coordinated emergency response, closest-unit dispatching for life-threatening emergencies, and regional public safety collaboration.
This vision was realized on October 1, 2014, when Broward County’s Regional 911 System was officially launched. This new system consolidated eight public safety answering points and transitioned 29 municipalities to being served by three regional communications centers operating under common technologies, call-taking procedures, and dispatch protocols.
Broward County’s Regional 911 System is funded and governed by Broward’s Board of County Commissioners, and operated by the Broward Sheriff's Office under established performance standards and service expectations.
