North Perry Airport (HWO), located in Pembroke Pines, Fla., serves as a vital general aviation reliever airport for Broward County and the surrounding region. A reliever airport reduces congestion at nearby commercial service airports like Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and improves safety by separating slower, smaller aircraft from larger jets. As a 511-acre public-use airport, HWO caters to aircraft and business owners that support light aircraft. On-site activities and services include fixed-base operators, private flying, flight training, aerial advertising companies, and aircraft maintenance/engine overhaul.
The general aviation airport's four runways provide flexibility and capacity for diverse, efficient, and safe airfield operations. The longest runway spans 3,463 feet, while the shortest measures 3,000 feet. For more details, review the HWO Fact Sheet. The airport is also home to more than 400 based aircraft and over 40 aviation businesses. At HWO, private and charter aircraft operators benefit from a full suite of services, including refueling, aircraft maintenance, and flight planning. Helicopter and airplane flight training is a notable part of the airport's identity, with multiple operators offering professional instruction for pilots of all experience levels.
With around-the-clock airfield access, HWO is designed to support safe operations at any hour. The airport's Air Traffic Control Tower operates daily from 7AM to 9PM, helping maintain safe and efficient traffic flow. Outside of tower hours, pilots continue to safely navigate the airport using standard protocols for non-towered operations.
North Perry Airport, owned by Broward County government and operated by its Aviation Department, remains committed to supporting community engagement, safe operations, and transparent communication with stakeholders, including residents, pilots, and tenants.
For the Broward County Aviation Department (BCAD), safety is always a top priority at North Perry Airport (HWO), our general aviation facility. As an example of this safety focus, in May 2026, HWO passed its Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) annual inspection with zero discrepancies (no safety, regulatory, or operational violations) for the 26th consecutive year. This commendable achievement demonstrates BCAD's commitment to providing a safe, secure airport. FDOT's inspection, which is required to maintain the airport's operating license, includes a review of airfield markings and signs, runway/taxiway lights, approach slopes, and safety areas.

2025 Townhall Updates
Townhall Meeting - August 2025
Broward County District 7 Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis hosted a townhall meeting for North Perry Airport (HWO) on August 27, 2025, for community residents to share their safety concerns and to provide information about what steps the County and Aviation Department are exploring to address them.
Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) Additional Operating Hour Request
A request was made to Robinson Aviation, Inc. on October 13, 2025, to apply for extended ATCT hours from 9PM (21:00) to 11PM (23:00). RVA is contracted with the FAA; therefore, the request to extend hours had to go through them. RVA prepared the application by FAA Order JO 7232.5G: Changing Hours for Terminal Facilities. We are awaiting a decision on this request.
North Perry Airport Community Advisory Committee (or NPACAC)
North Perry Airport (HWO) prioritizes public involvement and transparent communication. The North Perry Airport Community Advisory Committee (NPACAC) serves as a key forum for residents, stakeholders, and airport users to provide input on airport programs, safety, operations, and community considerations. This group plays an important role in strengthening collaboration between the airport and the surrounding neighborhoods.
The first meeting of new 2026 NPACAC took place on Tuesday, September 8, at 2:30PM at Broward Community College, 7200 Pines Blvd., Building 99, Room 202. In October 2025, the Broward County Commission voted to reinstate this airport committee, which had automatically ceased operations in December 2024.
